We begin the morning of July 5th on our own in Salzburg for the morning. We saw plaques commemorating the residences of many famous people. Christian Doppler’s house is next door to the Mozart family home.
Along the bridge over the Salz River we saw thousands of these locks attached to the fences. This Liebesschloss (Lock of Love) says “I love you” in German.
It is a tradition for lovers to proclaim their love for one another, decorate a lock and attach it to the fence. After a kiss, they throw the key into the river below. It made for lovely splashes of color all along the bridge.
We paid a few Euros to take the tram (more of an elevator actually) up to the Salzburg fortress. The view of the city and surrounding countryside was spectacular.
